Porcellio in the ship “Dairy Cow” is one of the most popular forms of isopods. Due to their characteristic black and white mottled pattern, they resemble small "cow speckles" and are very effective both in a bioactive terrarium and when grown as a separate colony.

Dairy Cow isopods help break down organic material that accumulates in the terrarium – leaf litter, food scraps and animal droppings. They help keep the substrate in a natural cycle and are well suited as part of a bioactive terrarium with springtails.

Choose the appropriate quantity:

Isopods are shipped in a transport cup with a suitable moist substrate.

Food

Leaf litter and decaying hardwood are suitable as the main food. In addition, vegetables can be offered and occasionally a higher protein supplement. The colony must always have available calcium source, such as cuttlefish bone.

Holding

The substrate should have both a wetter and a drier area so that the isopods can choose a suitable microclimate for themselves. Moss can be used in the wetter part. The terrarium should always have plenty of leaf litter and hiding places, such as cork bark or decaying wood.
